Stinky breath

How do you deal with this situation? My husband had very stinky breath. I mean I can smell it when I’m sitting on the other side of the couch and when I’m sitting in the back of the car and he’s driving. I have told him multiple times that his breath is stinky and he needs to brush his teeth but he said it doesn’t matter and it’s okay. He’s never gone to a dentist. I don’t really want to kiss him because it bothers me so much. He had pretty teeth but lack of dental care is making it so bad. He will go to the dentist in January. I have finally talked him in to it. We are not poor and it’s embarrassing that his breath stinks so bad. Sometimes I think our one year old daughter has a stinky diaper but really it’s his breath. I offer him gum mints and remind him to brush his teeth. Where he is from it wasn’t really important to do so. I’m embarrassed to post on here but I don’t want to embarrass him by asking family members or friends
