Looking for Baby shower advice/opinions

I started a new job nearly a month ago and I’ve been thinking of hosting a casual work baby shower and inviting my new co workers to a local restaurant after work. I think it would be a good way of building relationships with them, but I don’t know if it’s in bad taste or tacky. Yes I’m essentially asking for gifts, but that’s really secondary. I think just a night out after work would allow everyone some time to chat, or ask me questions without being distracting from work. (Wow, that sounds conceited! D: but they *have* asked me questions about baby and my well being and my life but it leads to chit chat which could get us in trouble! )

My sister in law is hosting a baby shower for me in a couple of months as well. I could invite them to that party,but my concern is that it’ll put a strain on her by adding more guests and having to accommodate them. I could just be overthinking Things which is why I’d like some opinions. :)
