Varicocele??

Hi Ladies, 
My hubby is devastated. Just found out he has Varicocele. The doctor told him it was very common and not to worry about it as it is treatable with surgery. His insurance will cover around 50% of the surgery costs. I'm thinking we are going to have it done, wait a year while TTC and if nothing happens then go with IVF. After the doctor looked over my blood tests he said I'd have a 50-60% chance with IVF since I already have 2 children and am only 31. 
Has anyone dealt with this before? Any advice?!?!?

UPDATE: Last April hubby was diagnosed with Varicocele and had only a 810k sperm count with 13% motility which equals only 6k of working sperm. He is scheduled for a. Varicocelectomy next Thursday. (His awesome insurance covers the surgery 100%). He took an update SA today a week before the surgery and it is now 2M sperm count w/ 51% motility which equals 1.2M working sperm. Yay!!!!! We are 100% sure that after the surgery his count will get even better. We are crossing our fingers for a 5-10M count by the summer time. 
Hubby stopped smoking (weed), drinking alcohol, improved his diet and takes multivitamins (also fertility doctor recommended blend of natural vitimans for sperm health).

Hi Ladies! Just an update to my last post. It has been 5 months since my hubby surgery and he had 9 mil sperm (3 mil motility). 5 months later he has a whopping 20 mil sperm (9 mil motility)!!! He has shocked his doctors with this great news. They are surprised that his sperm count has increased so much after the surgery and the best part is that it keeps getting better!!! We begin the iui process next month!!!

My hubby had 2 of them. It was 3 days of staying low key and then he was fine. 6 weeks later his pain was totally gone and semen analysis was greatly improved.

My husband just had the surgery last week! He says he's really not in a lot of pain!! Standing up for long periods of time can be bothersome, but if you have any questions about the surgery just ask 😉

We went straight to ivf due to the cost of the procedure and time. I'd go straight to ivf. I wish I wouldn't have wasted two years of my life trying to get pregnant!

It's a personal judgement call. My husband had severe vericocele, so for the long-term health benefits we chose to do surgery. I became pregnant naturally about 7 months post-surgery after a failed IUI. Sadly, that little one didn't stick, and we have put off IVF until now. We just did another SA thinking we were just checking the box for insurance purposes. My husband went from 1 million motile sperm a year ago and a spontaneous pregnancy in between to ZERO sperm. We now have to figure out what's going on- scar tissue? Who knows? It's a frustrating and lonely process.

My dh had his varicocelectomy done in November. He had it on both sides. He ha lol motility and low count. At our iui in October he had less than 100,000 moving sperm post wash. We are now 7 weeks along after conceiving naturally. We also used preseed the last 2 month we were ttc. Good luck to you all. This is our 2nd baby.

Varicocele surgery is a waste. Please spend your money elsewhere. All men have varicocele veins- removing them has not been proven to improve sperm function.

Going straight Ivf is what my husband and I did and we will know in a week if it was successful.

Hi. My husband also has it. At first he was also depressed but now  he decided to take the challeng with enthusiasm. We changed the way we eat and add vitamin E, folic acid, vitamin C and spirulina. His next appointment is on May 26 and we'll know when they operate. We feel positive about not needing anything more after the operation, 'cause of the care and modifications we have made. The results in sperm levels have improved markedly in only 2 months. It's hard, but thank God for this results.
