Why are girlfriends complicated?

So I met a group of female friends my first semester at college. I got super close to them...
One of the girls begged me to be in a sorority for next semester but sororities are not my thing. Plus I know my parents wouldn’t allow it..
Ever since I told her I couldn’t join she has been kinda rude to me lately and if we are in a group setting with random people, she will put me down telling me to shut up and say things “this is why your single”...
I asked her if everything is okay and she said she was just hungry and hasn’t eaten all day.
I feel like her and her other friend talk shit about me and they both admit they are very judgmental people and I have insecurities about themselves.
I like to think that I’ve been a good friend to them this entire time but I don’t know what to do. This really hurts. I would never judge them for anything but this just sucks.

Yea this isn't a girl thing this is a people thing. This is why I keep my circle small. I have a lot of friendly acquaintances but at the end of the day I only fw several people. 
And let anyone make you feel bad for not participating in Greek life. It's good for some, but not others. Yea it can be super rewarding and all, but it's also expensive, time consuming, and not all that great if you're introverted. You're good boo

In all honesty, if they are acting like this without even joining, I can’t imagine what kind of PMS enraging hell this jerk will put people through if she lives with the sorority house.  This is not a friend, and if I were you, I would not allow myself to be disrespected. In life you have to live with all sorts of people and she is acting immature. She has to learn to be civil and a friend to people that are different and can’t or don’t want to join the sorority. That is how life is, you wont be able to all get the same job or live in the same neighborhood, or people want to be in different groups/ activities/ interest. The best advice I can give you is to look for a better friend, cause this one isn’t it. Don’t trust them with personal things, and keep your distance so you won’t get more hurt or humiliated. I hope you find better friends. Good luck!

I think you should think more seriously about sororities... Greek life gets a lot of bad rep but being in a sorority can be an amazing experience, and the bonding you have with your sisters is irreplaceable. Maybe she's just upset that you won't be apart of that with her.
