Fighting racism
There is a video on the web (you tube search: momondo - The DNA Journey) that shows people (some who are a bit racist) voluntarily getting their DNA tested to see where their ancestors come from. Needless to say, most are quite shocked when they realize they aren't as pure (insert country here) as they thought they were. And pretty much everyone finds out their DNA is much more diverse than they ever imagined.
It's a powerful and moving video that I'd recommend watching if you're interested (about five mins).
My question is: how could we use this type of technology/testing to help fight racism?
Or is there no hope/ would this not work?Should it be offered to everyone for free at birth so they grow up knowing their Actual ancestry? Should it be offered as an option in the sentencing of the crimes somehow?
Other thoughts on how these DNA tests might be utilized to help fight racism?
