addiction & injection sites-good or bad?
I know not everyone can relate to addiction. but this day in age, it's become an epidemic.
many ppl have experienced addiction first hand. whether recovering or in active addiction. many more ppl know someone who is or was struggling with addiction.
today I read an article about on site injection sites. where addicts can go to shoot up. in a safe, clean environment and medical supervision.
some ppl say it's great. some ppl say Hell no!
imo, the addict is going to use regardless. so, thats out Of the way.
next, are they using with clean needles or dirty ones? the onsite facilities provided clean needles. which can dramatically lower the spread of hep c, aids, etc. and other infections like MRSA.
the also offer addiction services, for ppl wanting to get clean.
the death toll from over dose has lowered in the areas that have these facilities. for example, cananda. there have been 36 million on sight injections. there have been 6,440 overdoses. and ZERO deaths.
if those ppl, who did overdose, weren't at the facility, they probably would of died.
These places aren't enabling someone to start a herion addiction. and it's not stopping ppl from getting help. bc an addict has to hit rock bottom before they are open to help. an addict is going to use anywhere they can, but these places make it a bit safer. for everyone.
when users use alone, there is no one there in case something goes bad. which often ends in fatality.
For people who don't know addiction at all, well, they are usually ignorant to it. they don't get it. no clue. so they often are quick to judge.
I'm just wondering who all thinks these places are beneficial.
I think its a great idea and there should be more places like the one in Vancouver, Canada.
and yes, I was an addict. for about 5 years. it started with prescription pain pills for legitimate pain issues. but after getting immune to them, and eventually "cut off" - I realized I was dependent upon them. it all led to herion, oxys, fentanyl, and then methadone.
I have been clean for 11 years. and haven't looked back.
it's a different world than it was when I was using. not "good" back then, but MUCH safer than today.
TODAY, you don't know what youre getting. drugs being cut with everything from other drugs to elephant tranquillizers. it's so scary.
the war on drugs is a fight that will sadly never be fully won. too many addicts, too many dealers, too many over doses. its all just a sad, sad reality Of the times we're living in.
which makes this topic so heated.
