Did you use pain medication for giving birth? Or if this is your first child do you plan to?

Trying to decide if I want to or not. Thoughts?

I didn't get any with my first. I was induced, doc put in that thing to ripen my cervix and said I'd be getting another dose in like 12hrs. Half hour later my water broke and in about 1he she was out..( really quick labor and pretty pain less). With my 2nd, I was given narcotics, which allowed me some sleep time and within 4hrs, he was born. ( another short labor but he was painful). With my 3rd, I labored at home for about 3hrs, when contractions were like 3 mins apart, I called an ambulance. My water broke as soon as I stepped into L&D;, an hr later I was pushing and after 20 mins of that, I had my baby girl. Things again, happened too fast for meds. Now the 4th baby kicked my ass, I was in active labor for about 4hrs, then I couldn't take it and asked for an epidural, sadly it didn't really work as I was pushing half hour later and he was born within 45 mins. I can't say what this 5th and last birth would bring but I hope it's fast and I'm open to anything.

Epidural was amazing. I was shaking uncontrollably with nervousness. The epidural allowed me to enjoy the process.

I’m gonna see how things go. Been in a lot of discomfort these last couple months and the plan is go el naturel...I may change that though. I need a break from the pain! But we shall see!

I didn't want one. I was going the natural route. but 40 hours of labor, my body was exhausted and stopped dilating at 5cm. I was transferred to the hospital and given an epidural so I could sleep, give my body a rest, regain my strength, and progress. Total labor was 44 hours. I'm hoping this doesn't happen again with my next pregnancy.

I plan to. Only because when my sister was in labor it was the most horrifying thing I’ve seen. She’s a more natural person I mean vegan and all and she dilated all the way to a 9 without an epidural (even though she asked for one and they thought it was working which it wasn’t and by the time they noticed she was dilated to a 9 so that’s why she dilated that far without one) but she tolerates pain VERY well and after seeing her the way she was I’ve always said I will get one 😂
