Not sure??

Question

So my 8 year old told me today that a group in her grade have been picking on her a number of times, I want to believe her so I can help her out but in previous occasions she has not spoken the truth.
I don’t want to go in and speak to the teacher about it and make a complete foul out of her and myself, but I also don’t want to ignore it she be telling the truth and have it get worse and out of hand 
What do I do? Do I believe her or do I drop it

Always investigate it. Better safe than sorry. Make the school aware of what your child said so they can keep an eye on the situation whether made up or true. If it's found to be that they made it up I would definitely sit down with them and try to find out why they're making these stories up. I would then explain to them what could have happened to the other children because of their story and how people are not going to believe them if they keep lying about it, but does happen down the road. Teacher here 🙋🏼 I would always appreciate contact from the parent for more information before jumping to conclusions or dropping it and then something happens. Just reach out and tell the teacher what your child is coming home saying. Maybe she has noticed something, or the teacher can keep a closer eye on it and let you know after investigating. Give your child some tips of how to deal with mean girls. Ask them to stop, stay away from them and play with others, talk to an adult at school, etc..

there is no problem approaching the school for answers. your child told you something if the school says it's untrue have a teaching moment with her about lying and consequences

I would send a quick email to the teacher asking about it. With bullying the way it is now, there is nothing wrong with checking it out. Plus the teacher can keep and eye out for if things change either positively or negatively with your daughter and the group. Good luck!

I would talk to the teacher and tell them your child may be being bullied. Ask them to please pay extra attention to what is going on around your daughter. This way, you don’t sound like you’re throwing allegations out and your daughter gets help if these kids are actually picking on her.
