Normal Doctors appointment????

Question

Hey ladies, I went and saw my doctor yesterday to confirm my pregnancy and get the ball rolling with midwife etc. She didn’t do a test with me, no examination, nothing. Just asked when my last period was, and prescribed me some folic acid and also told me like 2 foods I cant eat (soft cheese and pate) luckily I have a sister who’s had two babies and my mum, and a couple of friends. 
 I’m just really confused and wondering if this is normal? I have a midwife appointment booked on Dec 28th and I’ll be 7w5d then.

Totally normal. 
They make you feel like you’re wasting their time almost - they don’t do anything!

Totally normal in the south east, I didn't get a doctors appointment to confirm pregnancy to start with
And then my first midwife appointment wasn't until I was 11 weeks :)
Just google anything you're curious about or use this lovely app ^_^

They wouldn’t see me at all until I was 10 weeks for the booking appt and all they did was ask loads of questions

Yeah very normal. My normal doctor wouldn’t even see me and just made an appointment with the midwife and she didnt do a pregnancy test or anything. They say if you get a positive at home it’s the same tests they would use so they just believe you! Crazy!!

yeh i had same experience. just felt stupid for going but thought you had too. on the positive though my midwife appointments were always lovely . congrats by the way 😊 x

Agreed!! When i went to see my doctor ar 6 weeks preg he basically did the referral form for ghe hospital, asked me if i was taking folic acid and that's it!! I felt like i couldn't ask him any questions and that he did not care! I also had some hip pain too which i told him at the beginning of the appointment "so i have 2 things to talk to you about!" and he responded "well....pick the most important one because i don't have all day" 😲😲😲😲 I learnt more about pregnancy from this app and google than i did my own doctor or any health professional i have seen so far ! (UK by the way) Even my midwife appointments are quick, they do my blood pressure, weigh me etc and say NOTHING! i have to ask if everything is ok?! It's meant to be an exciting time but some doctors and nurses make you feel like it's a waste of time! I am a veterinary nurse and i have to give people so much information about how their pet is doing after surgery, or comment on their pets health, weight etc and show i care ....animals get  better care than we do! sorry for the rant ! haha

definitely normal. with my second I didn't bother with the doctor and didn't even get to see a midwife til 13 weeks!

Sounds normal. Haven’t even seen my dr all pregnancy! Saw a nurse at the beginning because I was worried about cramping - she just told me how to book with a midwife!

I called my doctors Tuesday after a positive test, thinking that’s what you do but she was very dismissive and said go online and book midwives. This is my first baby so I’m clueless! I paid for a 6 week scan so I am 100% sure before telling my husband which is on the 21st I’m nervous to go on my own but don’t want to get anyone hopes up if it’s not the real deal

That happened to me too. I came away really disappointed as I was told that they don’t deal with pregnancies so they would refer me to the midwife. Apart from awkwardly asking me if it was planned, she asked me no questions at all and just told me to carry on living my life as normal and to wait for a letter from the midwife to organise an appointment. It’s been a week and I haven’t heard a thing.
