Extracting placenta. Is this normal?

So when I had my daughter the OB on call waited 5-10 minutes before forcibly taking out the placenta himself. I've been doing research and seeing how bad that really is.

So with my second baby I want to make it clear to them that I won't let them take it out till at LEAST 30 minutes after birth, but I'm afraid of them saying something like "you're bleeding, it's an emergency, we need to".

Can anyone give me some knowledge on this subject so I can go in prepared and not just take their word for it?

I just don't want to make them wait 30 minutes if it was actually an emergency.
