Blood clotting disorders and pregnancy
I found out I was pregnant a week ago. Im currently 4ws and a few days along. Right before thanksgiving I had blood work done. When I called to get the results and tell them about my positive test, they schedule me immediately for a consultation.
My results (which I got after my father suffered a pulmonary embolism in October and blood tests came back with a gene mutation) show I have a gene mutation that makes me more susceptible to blood clotting - something pregnant women are already at higher risk for.
They immediately scheduled me to see a specialist. Well, I called the specialist that afternoon, as told, and was told someone would call me back in a few days after they had reviewed my file.
I called back a few days later when I didn’t receive a call. They explained they were busy and couldn’t see me until January. To call back then or they would call me when there was an opening.
With this info, I was thinking that perhaps this wasn’t as scary as I initially thought.
But when I called my doctor today to ask if I could continue acupuncture, they asked when I was going in to the specialist. I told the medical assistant what transpired and she was obviously extremely pissed, saying I needed that appointment and that she’d have the doctor call.
My doctor is just crazy enough I think to call them and raise hell, which I love...
But also has me worried again.
Does anyone here have a blood clotting disorder? How early did they start you on shots (blood thinners)? Did they put you on them even if you’d had no previous issues? Did you suffer a miscarriage or any other issues due to the disorder/blood clotting?
My biggest fear at this point is no longer giving myself a shot, but the idea that if I’m supposed to be on the shots with 100% certainty that this company is putting mine and my babies health at risk.
