Is obesity a disease?

Last week, the American Medical Association voted to classify obesity as a disease. In one day, 78 million American adults and 12 million American children were deemed to have a medical condition that needs treatment due to obesity. The decision was controversial to say the least.

I am sure we are all of the opinion that eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa and bulimia are illnesses. So what about the other end of the spectrum - overeating and eating fattening food to the point of obesity? Do you find obesity an illness?
