He proposed now he’s unsure

My boyfriend proposed on my birthday 11/30, mind you we didn’t live together before. He moved in and now it’s very awkward, I’m very independent, work overnights and we work the same place except he works days. I’m trying very hard to allow him to take on man duties yet it’s hard when he makes no initiative to do them when time is available. I end up doing them, simple house repairs or outdoor work. The problem being it’s hard to mesh the lifestyles, he’s timid, I’m outspoken and intimidating at times, so he says. He doesn’t want to step on toes but makes no effort at making it work out. So today 12/16 he’s proceeding to move out and call off engagement. Not that age matters but I want a future I’m 32 and childless, he’s 28 and childless! I’m pretty confused now
