Opinions on ultrasound?

Question

What are your opinions on 5 year old child attending the first ultrasound? 
To be honest.. I'm torn. I think it would be really cool for her to hear the heartbeat and on the other hand... if anything is wrong, this is when we would find out. What do you think?

I would take my five year old with me. Maybe take grandma or grandpa as well, or someone that she'd feel comfortable with to watch her if something is wrong.

No. Don’t do it. It’s not appropriate. It’s unimaginable to find out negative news on your own. Take it from me, kids do not belong in an ultrasound.

First off make sure your us place allows children- some don't! Imo I would take my kid to the gender ultrasound at 20 weeks, but not the first one. Firstly they're sometimes transvaginal, which personally I would feel uncomfortable explaining to my kid at that age. Second there's just the smallest little bean and a heartbeat, and if anything were to go wrong I wouldn't want my kid there to see me lose it. By my 19 weeks us I had felt flutters, so I'd be more confident that my first child wouldn't be witnessing anything going wrong, and they'd see what looks more like a baby.

Get her one of those bears that record the heartbeat.  or ask to have it put  on CD so u can show it when you get home.

I took my 5 and 2 yo to the first ultrasound. The thought did occur to me about the possibility of a problem. But everything went well and I think it helped both of my kids to understand what was going on with Mommy better at an earlier time. Now at 28 weeks it’s obvious a baby is growing in my tummy to them but it wasn’t as easy to understand until after the ultrasound. 
But if you still have doubts just wait until your next ultrasound to take your child.

I would say no, don’t bring a 5year old. Mostly because my hospital don’t recommend it, and my first scan to ages, due to the little one showed us his whole dance routine and ended up in an odd angle. If I got impatient I can only guess how a 5year old would react.

I wouldn’t... I have a 6 year old, and I have had two miscarriages this year. My daughter knew about the first and three days later we had an ultrasound confirming we lost the baby... for the second she did not even know we were expecting. Both losses were in the first trimester.
I am glad she was not at the ultrasound because I needed that time to process the news and cry with my husband and only then was I able to think through how to break the news to my daughter. I was able to tell her and reassure her that I was ok, and I am not sure if she had been in the room it would have been as easy on her or on me.. the second time it was a little easier knowing we had fewer people to notify (daughter included).
I don’t say this to scare you, but I had a 100% normal healthy pregnancy with my daughter followed by two losses.. nothing is promised in this life. I would include her in a later ultrasound when you are past the first trimester hurdle.

Because child care fell thru. Then I found out I miscarried. Luckily he was completely clueless about what was going on because by the time I found out my husband had arrived and was distracting him. I had to ask my husband to take our son Home
And then I lost it. It was surreal.
