First time pumping?!?!? help!

Question

I’m due in march and plan to try breast feeding and pumping and i have no clue where to start?! When do you start pumping?! Do you feed and pump st the same time?! Do you feed then when your done pump the opposite side?! I know sooo many questions!!! Some guidance would be so appreciative!!

I just had my baby 10 days ago and he had trouble EBF so I turned to EP. I pumped every 2 hours during the day and 3 at night for the first week. Now that he's over a week old I pump every 2.5 hours during the day and 4 hours at night. This has helped tremendously with sleep since my hubs will take the first night shift so I can get 4 hours of uninterrupted sleep then I have enough energy to take on the rest of the night. My milk supply is slowly increasing but it's taking time. Once your baby is born you'll find a rhythm and what works for you guys!

There’s many ways you can do it. It will be what works best for you and what you have time to do. If you EBF and pump go get extra then you don’t need do pump every 2-3 hours. If you end up EP then you will need to pump every 2-3 hours.

I exclusively pump! She does breast feed every blue moon though. I pump every 2-3 hours during the day and every 4 at night! Pump until empty not just 20 minutes stop. Make sure you are empty. I’m 8 weeks PP from c section currently and pumped less than 2 hours post surgery. Rented the hospital pump for a month while doc was in NICU. Get a good pumping bra. A gallon of water a day. Make sure you change your membranes every 4-6 weeks. If you have any questions let me know!

You will start one or the other right after the baby is born.  Your milk will take a few days to come In but you will have a little colostrum in the beginning.  You will not start pumping right away unless you have trouble with latching, the lac consultants will be there to help you at the hospital.  If you want to exclusively pump then you will start right away and pump every 2-3 hours,  your milk may take a little longer to come in but stick to a good schedule and eventually it will.  And make sure you check with your insurance before you buy anything.  Most give you a free pump.  Then you will want a good hands free pump bra, they are great!
