I have blue Cross Blue Shield ppo location is in chicago IL. I’m a patient in IL. Doesn’t my insurance have to provide coverage by law the first 4 rounds of assisted fertility treatment. I know The bill just passed in IL and my fertility clinic is claiming that my insurance will only cover $10,000 of coverage for a life time?? That only equals partial coverage for 1 round ivf. ??

Illinois is a state that’s required to provide fertility assistance. So jealous! Definitely call them!

Unfortunately, it’s not required by all employers or all plans. Even in Illinois with the mandate. There are tons of employer loopholes. I’m in IL too, spent a lot of one researching and asking unnecessary questions. I’d ask your employer if they’d consider asking your provider for it OR allowing you to pay for an insurance rider that adds it on.

Definitely call your insurance company. There are several factors that preclude companies from having to provide coverage. If an employer has its main headquarters located outside of Illinois, is self-insured or has less than 25 employees, they are exempt from the state mandate. Health insurance with the federal government also does not adhere to state mandates (as noted by a previous commenter). Additionally, you have to meet the state definition of infertility. 
FYI-We have BCBS IL and they cover unlimited IUI and 4 IVF’s per year with a $1,500 annual deductible.

They don't legally have to cover that because it isn't a medically necessary procedure.

I have BCBS HMO and mine is 100% covered. The fertility part is through win fertility and last time I talked to them i asked how many more cycles I have and they said it covers 4 ivf cycles a year(?) but that was the win fertility nurse so im not sure if that's for sure. HMO sucks for always needing referrals but in this case it's been a godsend!

I have bc/bs. The family deductible is $5400 and the out of pocket max is $10,000. They cover part of ultrasounds for the IUI, but not every part of the procedure. So I pay the rest until I reach the deductible. Then all med expenses are covered 80/20. I pay the 20% up until I’ve paid $10,000.

Call your insurance. I have BC/BS and they dont cover fertility treatment only labs & sonos. Sucks butt! i so far paid 10k out of pocket and 3k on meds.

I would call your insurance. It’s not mandatory for them to provide coverage but they would be the best resource to find out what is and isn’t covered.
