Breast feeding ?!

Question

I’m about 37 weeks and I plan to strictly breastfeed/pump. I’m kind of worried I won’t be able to though. I’ve heard other moms say they’ve been leaking milk and colostrum and they can feel the milk and all this other stuff but for me...nothing. I’m a ftm and I’m just so clueless. Some reassurance or advice would be greatly appreciated!

I never leaked at all when I was pregnant. As soon as baby was born, the lactation consultant expressed a ton of colostrum from my nipple and baby had been in he boob ever since. She only had colostrum until my milk came in on day four and had had milk ever since. Just, don’t let her pressure you into supplementing with formula until your milk comes in. It’s not needed and baby will be just fine with colostrum. Don’t fret! Also, a little tip, it’s going to be a job to do! Don’t lose patience. It takes a lot of work for both you and baby and a lot of patience from Mom. Even have Dad help you with baby’s latch if you need to. That’s what my husband did. Team effort all around!

You likely will be able to. If you’re struggling, just be sure to ask for help. A few days after birth, your milk should come in. You may not be leaking colostrum now, but that’s okay. That doesn’t mean you won’t have any when baby is born. Not leaking doesn’t mean it’s not there!

I didn’t leak either but have been able to successfully bf.  I agree with the other moms though, that it takes patience and work!  No one really prepared me for that.  I kind of assumed it would just naturally happen.  I worked closely with the lactation consultants at the hospital and tried to soak up as much knowledge as I could before I was discharged.. how to express colostrum, work on proper latch, pump, etc and it has made my experience much more positive. I don’t have any leaking before baby was born.  Had no problem with milk coming in.

you'll be able to. hey help from a lactation consultant. don't let them give your baby a bottle unless it's medically necessary. just fed baby often and you'll get it. it's challenging at first but so worth it

Just because you’re not leaking now does not mean you won’t be able to breastfeed! Just be patient and don’t give up. My milk didn’t come in until 6 days postpartum and I was so ready to give up because everyone kept saying it should come in at 3-4 days. Just keep at it and try your best!

I never leaked, my baby is two weeks and i successfully breastfeed exclusively.  I even have to pump already because I produce a lot of milk.  I’m sure you will be fine!

It took me about 8 days before my milk came in. I had absolutely no colostrum (4 nurses man-handled my boobs before I told the 5th to not bother) I was so frustrated and scared I wouldn’t be able to breastfeed. I had my LO on formula until my milk came in and went to a lactation consultant for help before confidently moving my LO strictly on breast milk.

I never leaked with my first, and I had a full milk supply. Try not to stress about that.
