Pill scheduling 🤷🏽‍♀️

So my pharmacist didn’t give me much indication on exact when I should be taking the pill as in, when to start and when to get off it it for the week. I just started taking them in the middle of my cycle and I kept taking them as I got my period. Only after 3 days did I realize people usually go off the pill during their period days (?) I’m just confused on when I’m supposed to take them/start packs since I didn’t start the pack on the first day of my period. Is it okay if I just continue taking the pills through my period and then stop when I get my next period even if it means every time I get my period, I’m in the middle of a pack of pills? Please help; I’m just confused overall 😪.
