Help! Mixed signals

Hello Everyone, I am TTC baby number 1 we are at 8 months with no birth control, 5 months of me tracking and actively trying during my fertile window. My cycles last between 22 and 27 days (usually 24 days but there have been some irregularities) I ovulated on either Dec 12th or 13th with AF due Christmas day. Christmas eve I saw brown tinged CM then had very light spotting Christmas morning. I never spot prior to a period (AF always comes fast and hard with no symptoms) and my SO and I have not had sex in the past 3 days so it's not related to that. I am hoping it may be implantation bleeding since it can take 6 to 12 dpo. In all my excitmrnt for a christmas babt I may have tested a few times but so far have just been seeing BFN's, so I can't tell if I'm late or just having the lightest period ever. Is this just false hope and I need to prep myself for AF breaking my heart again or should I test again later this week? Has this happened to anyone else?
