Question: Can we have/ask for multiples for IUI?

My husband and I have been trying for a few years and want twins or triplets. We are suppose to start IUI next month. what are my options

How many mature follicles you get will depend on how you respond to the meds. Be careful though, some doctors have a cut off for how many = too many to do the IUI. For me, my dr would proceed at 3 follicles, particularly after a few failed rounds. More than 3 and he would cancel the IUI and recommend abstinence/condoms until the next cycle. If might be a good question for you to ask at the beginning of your treatment. Best of luck!

I had 4 mature follicles for my IUI and am only pregnant with one baby. It’s honestly a hit or miss.

You are at risk for multiples if you grow 4-5 mature follicles. So asking for the dose of meds that will give you that. But most reputable drs won’t give you multiples intentionally. Ethically, it’s wrong.

For IUI there’s no way of telling how many you’ll get because they will not insert the semen into your uterus. Now you could be on clomid and that medication yields a high likelihood of you releasing more than one egg, but that doesn’t always happen. 
Now if you were using IVF they’ll typically implant 2+ embryos, depending on number of attempts, and there’s always a chance that both will implant or even that one or both will split. (I have friends in Texas who used IVF via a surrogate. The doc implanted two healthy grade A day 5 embryos with a very low chance of both implanting and an even lower chance of one or both of them splitting. Well they both implanted and one split so they now have triplet boys.)
