engagement ring?

okay, so my SO and I have recently decided to have a small courthouse wedding. without getting into too many specifics, he never proposed in the traditional way, so i never got an engagement ring. do you think it would be weird for me to suggest a small pandora ring that looks the part? it just feels weird when i tell people i’m getting married, and they ask to see my ring and there’s nothing to show... and once we do wed, there will only be a small band on my finger. am i just being too picky about this small detail? i’m not asking for him to drop his life’s savings on this, because i know we’re planning for a future that requires us to save money. but is $100 ring too much to ask for? i don’t know if i should ask for it.. are my reasons too petty ?
