Help! Pregnant and a puppy?

Need some advice... my husband and i are supposed to get a puppy in mid January. Two days before Christmas i found out im pregnant. Am i crazy to get a puppy still?? Has anyone ever done this?

I have a puppy and 3 kids. If it's a big dog that requires a lot of exercise I'm not sure if you'll be up for it. Mine is a little dog so I basically play fetch in the house and she's happy lol and just take her to to potty. Since you're not due for awhile, I think it will be okay if you're disciplined enough to train properly while pregnant. The worst thing is when people aren't prepared to train properly, then they have the baby and realize that the dog still jumps, poops on the floor and they don't have enough time for the dog, and get rid of the dog once baby comes. That's just not fair. But if you're 100% committed, then go for it.

We adopted a one year American Staffordshire when I was about 12 weeks pregnant. Be prepared for extra work, especially with a puppy. If you make this commitment, know that it’s for life, don’t be one of those people that dumps their dog after the baby comes. Make sure you research whatever breed you’re interested in, they’re all cute when they’re little until you realize you have a working breed that needs a job or a terrier that has energy 24/7. Dogs can add so much joy to your life. Children that grow up with pets are less likely to develop allergies.

Life is short, get the puppy. It's work, but you'll have a dog that will be raised around the baby from a very young age so it'll always be used to your kid, which is nice

I got a puppy not knowing I was pregnant in June. I was about 3 or 4 weeks when I got him. I’m not going to lie, it made the beginning of my pregnancy very difficult. He was a lot like a newborn himself, so that meant I was losing out on a lot of sleep between the early mornings, lost nap time and sometimes middle of the night taking him potty while I was battling with my constant fatigue. Not to mention I had to watch him constantly. Now I’m 33 Weeks pregnant and my puppy is around 8 months old, I’ve been fortunate that he has turned out to be a great pup but it’s been a lonnnnng road getting here. If you have the time to devote to the puppy and you’re okay with all the sacrifices that you’ll have to make for it, then by all means. Some things to consider is doing some research on how the breed you’re looking to get is with children, their energy level, how their temperament is and how easily or difficult they are to train. My puppy is going to be 10 pounds fully grown, so I’m not really worried about him knocking the baby over or being too rough with her. Bigger breeds can sometimes accidentally be a little clumsy or rough when they’re young since they just don’t know any better, so that’s something to think about too! If you do get the puppy I’d definitely recommend exposing it to as many children as possible before yours gets here. Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

I’m 6 weeks and have German Sheppard puppy plus to 2 kids. It’s a lot of work but wroth it . So the kids can grow up with her.
