DEPO shot Population Control??

Okay guys, this may sound silly so i’m out here to have a respectable conversation and maybe find out some information and education on this. I have a friend who Read a twitter thread and now SWEARS six ways to Sunday, that the DEPO shot has only been used on POC (which i already know is false) as a form of population control because it can cause different reactions, (example: the person who posted the thread complained of gaining weight, cramping, and other reactions doctors warn you about birth control). Am i the only one who thinks that is a maybe VERY untrue? Specifically, the DEPO being used as population control for POC? (yes i am very aware of the history behind population control, im just pointing out this theory on the depo shot)
