Dog for baby+chickens?

Question

Obviously, not a “product” recommendation, but I didn’t know where else to post! We recently had a hawk attack one of my favorite chickens so we’ve been contemplating getting a dog to watch our flock. It would mostly be a working dog and we would leave him outside (we live in an area where the temperature generally ranges from 50-70 degrees all year round so it never freezes or gets too hot). That being said, we have a 3 month old so I want a dog who will be gentle with kids. Does anyone have a good farm dog recommendation?

They still generally need training, despite having natural guarding/ herding instincts. You might look for an older dog that has already worked on a farm or had training.

my border collie is good with my kids and chickens and he can clear our 4 ft fence with little effort... he's high energy though so we play catch with him a few times a day... we had him before the chickens and I introduced them to him a bit at a time. I knew he would be good with them because he's good with my cats

A guardian breed like the Great Pyrenees would be my suggestion. Hearing breeds are great dogs but in my experience their need to herd can be hard on other animals and kids.

if it's jest for the birds you don't want a Hardin dog thay well want to chas them you need a calm breed any well do get it about 8 weeks old jest weening age and put it in the koop to well grow up thinking it's a bird and well protect them youll have to have a heating lap for hem tell he's about 6 months my mom ran a chicken farm for many years that way and never lost a bird

German Shepherd, Belgium line particularly. 
We had a white German Shepherd who was the best damn dog I ever had. She would kill anything that came into our yard, but yet let our cats and rabbit alone because she was told too. No one could touch my children, they were her babies. All I had to do was giver her a look, and she knew what I wanted. 
We had two other German shepherds before her that were Belgium line, and they were amazing dogs also. The white line tho is recessive and they have a very loving side along with their working side.

We have a lab/hound mix, a mix of hunting dogs who totally missed those genes lol, and he's awesome with our chickens. However, we had him before we had the birds, so to be fair you will have to train any dog you get.

blue heeler dogs are actually a breed for farms/herds. they have lots of energy. i have a border collie/blue heeler puppy. they need lots of training as they are high energy and may jump up on the baby. but if you get any puppy they will. this breed is very loyal and once trained very good pets and very good for farm life.
