breast feeding

so I never got the chance to breast feed with my first due to inverted nipples and being judged when I wanted to try. Now I'm expecting 5 years later and due in March I would like to try and breastfeed I heard of using nipple shields but I wanted to know has anyone used them before also is it mandatory to use them every time for a feed or will my nipple eventually come out 😂
