Period or what??!

So let’s state this. Supposed to be getting my period at the end of the week, and yesterday after sex with my boyfriend when I went to the bathroom there was pinkish red discharge.. I figured it was just from the sex considering I was a bit dry before but then it continued for a few hours and stopped. It went away up until this morning and I was so confused when it came back! There was the same amount, just enough for a panty liner and it went away.. any thoughts ? Could this be the start of my period or just birth control issues..?
