Midcycle spotting - what's normal?

I am 21 and started my period when I was 11. I have never experienced spotting until now. I am currently ovulating and read that it is somewhat normal, but again I have never experienced it. Does anyone know if this is abnormal for someone with my history? I am also on the pill which I have been on and off for the past 5 years or so with consistent periods and no spotting. Just want to know what's up with my body!
