Am I too Chill or is my family overreacting?

My boyfriend of 3 years, sister got married and I wasn’t “officially” invited. He asked me to come for the ceremony but when it was time for the reception his sister asked that I not be there because it was a private family event. I said oh well, (yes I was upset but whatever) but my family was really angry and now want me to end things with my boyfriend because he should have stood up for me. I just feel like I wouldn’t have wanted to be the dramatic spotlight on his sisters wedding day even if he had said something so I’m glad he didn’t. What do you ladies think?

If you’ve moved on from it, your family should too. It’s really mature of you to respect his sister’s wishes on her day and not fight and take the spotlight, I think you did the right thing

If she lied about it being a private event that didn't include a plus one, then I would be upset that the boyfriend didn't stand up for me. If it was the truth, then I would blow it off.

I think it’s odd that after three years you aren’t accepted into the family. After three years w my boyfriend I attended every family photo shoot, wedding, vacation.. but it was her wedding after all and it was mature of you to leave it be

I'd be pissed if it were me, but then again when I was with my husband at the 3 year mark of us dating, he would have stood up for me and either told his family that I WAS going or he would not be attending without me. If you can be chill about something like that I guess that's okay and good for you then.

Honestly, I’d be pissed off. But it’s really mature of you to not be bother by that. And if you feel ok about it just remind your family that you’re fine with how it is.
