early flu symptoms ??

My 12 year year old niece has a 100.5 temp, I'm trying to determine if it's the beginning of the flu. I've never had flu (except when I was a kid) knock on wood. But what are the beginning symptoms of flu most.of.you who have had it have experienced?? would she be coughing, sore throat?? thanks

Many things could cause a low-grade temperature and a sore throat and cough... one of those things is flu, but there are also countless other bacteria and viruses that would as well. True influenza will often present with the chills and muscle aches as well as runny nose, congestion, etc.  However in a child, even a common cold can raise their temperature a little. If her symptoms persist or worsen, she should see a doctor to further diagnose.
