Menstrual Cup and Pads

I am thinking about getting a menstrual cup so I can reduce waste and save money with pads and tampons. However, being me, I am certain I will fuck up the first few times. So I'm wondering, is it acceptable to wear a pad with a cup? Because I know I'll leak. Also please drop any cup recommendations while you're here, I have a moderate to heavy flow if that helps, no kids.
