Perinatologist after anatomy scan?

Had my anatomy scan at 19 weeks and am being referred to a perinatologist for a level 2 scan because they couldn’t see all of the heart. Has this happened to anyone else, and if so, what was the outcome?

Update: Had perinatologist appointment today and baby girl was diagnosed with HLHS (Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome) We have been referred to a pediatric cardiologist, who we see next week. But it sounds like she will have to have 3 open heart surgeries after she is born.

Me! I would never get a full bladder when I had to go in for scans (don't know why), so they sent me to one. it was actually neat. They will do a scan to where you can see the blood flow/umbilical cord flow. I enjoyed the days when I had to go there.

Not the same reason but the saw some fluid on his kidneys and sent me to the peri for a detailed scan. They were concerned because fluid on kidneys is either a soft marker for downs OR a very common condition called Pylorectaisis that resolves before birth. Anyhow, they took detailed measurements and ruled out other markers of downs so it looks like everything is fine and it's just the common one.

it's pretty common actually. Since this is likly to be your only scan until the end of the pregnancy, or the last scan period, they need to see absolutly everything. If they can't because of how baby was laying or if baby was too wiggly, they will have you come back or send you somewhere with better equipment
