Do women normally ovulate around the same time/day each month or does it vary?

Haven’t used opks before and I’m thinking if I don’t get pregnant this cycle, I’m going to buy them for my next cycle.
Is it also true that women can have an LH surge without releasing an egg for ovulation? How does that even happen?
Any personal experiences?

It’s normally around the same time if you have a predictable cycle. But a positive ovulation test doesn’t mean you ovulated. You also get an LH surge right before your period.

Having a positive opk picks up OH hormone which is released 12-48 hours before ovulation. It doesn't necessarily mean you have ovulated. Hope this helps. You can tell for sure if you have ovulated my doing your bbt every day as after ovulation your temp will rise.
