Ask me out then disappeared- rant 🙄

This guy I knew before asked me out on a date. I said yes then I haven’t hear from him to confirm or anything. I’ m not going to text him since he was the one who initiated the date. I just don’t understand how can he ask me out after years of no contact ( because we haven’t been in touch for a long time) then just disappear like nothing happened.
