Mastitis ,maybe

I went to the doctor today cause last night I had a fever, chills and my left breast was hurting so bad. ( it wasn’t red) it hurt when I nursed my son... and I can feel some clogged ducts... the doctor told me that my nipple was cracked and that I didn’t have mastitis or a infection... I asked why did I have those symptoms and she said it could be your body letting u know something is wrong... she told me to use warm compress and this ointment to heal the crack... now I have a little bit of redness on my breast and it still hurts... do u think she could be wrong?
