Does fear equal respect?

Just me, still obsessing with the Krays, my SO said that they were respected by all of their “workers”, the public and enemies. I said no, they were feared which doesn’t equal respect.

IMO we might act the same way, we wouldn’t be rude to someone we respect or to someone we fear. But the two aren’t the same to me. I think there are some crossovers, I respect the police but do sometimes fear them.

Where has fear and respect overlapped? A profession or anything you can think of.

What do you think the fundamental differences between fear and respect is?
