In America, do you have to pay for all your pregnancy care?

Scans? Appointments? Etc... Everything medical is free in England for everyone... Literally anything you go to the hospital for... Free! I really do feel blessed. I had no idea you had to pay for these things. I'm really starting to appreciate the NHS. Everyone complains how rubbish it is here but when you think about it... it's really quite brilliant! I'm aware we pay from our paychecks automatically but to me this is still such a beautiful service and I'm proud to be English!

Healthcare is truly one of the worst things about this country! It cost $40,000 for me to give birth. Luckily I have great health insurance. So many people pay quite a bit of money for their births and prenatal care.

It depends on your health insurance. But like when it comes to most things, I’d rather choose what I spend my money on instead of the government taxing me and deciding what to do with my dollars. I also see that most people in “free” healthcare situations are limited to how many times/at what points they get to go see their doctor during their pregnancy. I went at 4 weeks 2 days and am going again at 6 weeks 2 days...and could go back whenever I damn well please.

The NHS is not free, we pay from our salaries. From the day we start working we pay towards hospitals and emergency services. When people decide not to work or cannot work to are asked to go on the ‘dole’. The ‘dole’ also contributes towards the hospitals and emergency services except it’s just taken out of the pocket of the workers.

Depends on your medical insurance. I don't have to pay for any pre-natal appointments (or the first pediatric appointment), but I did pay a portion of all ultrasounds and any medication needed during. Then I also had to pay for labor and delivery along with the hospital stay. So total for our son was along the lines of $5,000.

Uh yeah if you don't have insurance you can go on state care and hope you receive respectable care (some places are great and some SUCK.) 
I have insurance and had to pay for all the copays and a few tests not covered by insurance - then we also pay a percentage of the birth costs depending on what insurance you have. 30% or 40% of the hospital costs usually.
Then we get no federally paid leave unless we live in certain states (only 4 out of 50 have something and it's partial disability that you get taxed on and don't always see until after you're back to work). NJ is 6-8 weeks partial disability. 
Then we have to figure out childcare which is looking like $200-$400 a week depending on the package we choose.

its not free. its taken from you in other ways like taxes. it just makes everything else expensive so healthcare is free. I am from the US and my healthcare is great. I pay $40 a month and it will cost me between $600-$1500 to give birth. not complaining lol

I had an emergency c-section with lots of health complications and we didn’t pay one dime out of pocket, even though our total hospital bill was over $300k. No copay for any appointments, tests, or medications. My husband has great insurance through his employer. The only thing we had to pay for was our son’s birth certificate, which cost $28 because we did it online.

We have great insurance. Have zero co-pay for all appointments, zero for ultrasounds (get one at every appointment), zero for blood tests, etc. 37 weeks and have paid exactly zero dollars. Labor & delivery, lactation consultant and postnatal care will be $250.
