New back to the gym question

I just recently went back to the gym. I used to be a competitive gymnast and unfortunately let myself go. I was young and followed what my coaches told me to do and I never really learned to workout on my own. Now its my responsibly to coach myself everyday and eat healthy and get healthy. Anyways to my question: Today I've got a bit of pain in my arms from my workout yesterday. Now today is leg day so I dont really care i will be going to the gym. But if arm day comes again and my arms still hurt is it productive to continue working out arms or just rest. I do not want to cause any injuries to myself.
