Heck no. With social media these days my girls won’t be getting a cell phone with internet on em till they’re in high school, and even then it will be closely monitored! They can have a Jitter bug till then 😂 Raising kids now a days is so much more stressful with the worries of bullying and the internet, compared to what it was when I was young.

No. I work at a middle school. Both cyber bullying and child pornography is RAMPANT! It's shocking. Phones get stolen all the time, or have to be taken away by teachers because they are a major distraction. Even if you follow your child on all social media accounts, kids are smart enough to find ways to be private and post inappropriate pictures of themselves or act crass. Even if your child is trustworthy (everyone believes their child is an angel), they will be the exposed to what their peers post, which is a terrible influence. Snapchat and instastory are the worst because posts disappear after a day and there is hardly any accountability and kids bully and say horrible things to each other. Enough to make other kids contemplate  suicide. As someone who has worked with hundreds of middle schoolers for the past 4 years, I would strongly recommend you either ban or watch your child's activity super closely (I personally would be paranoid).

My daughter is 10 yrs old and we got her her own cell phone cuz she is gone with friend or just in case we ain’t back in time when she gets out of school that way we can text her saying we ain’t home or stuff like that, she has Snapchat but she isn’t allowed to add anyone without my approval and if someone adds her she has to tell me so I know who it it but Facebook no she don’t have and won’t until I say so.

I remember being 13 and those were the days when chat rooms were popular. I had quite a bit of older men contacting me, sending me inappropriate messages and photos, and I believe my parents had filters on our internet. Clearly they didn't prevent all the issues. One man claimed he was 37 and a firefighter and he was probably a child predator, now that I'm older and wiser to see that. I'd definitely keep your 12 year old off social media as much as possible.

I’m 20 and believe I was aloud to use Facebook at 12? But my parents strictly monitored it and I was only around family and friends my parents knew to be on my friends list. But that was it! I was not aloud any other kind of social media till I was like 15? And still my parents were my friends and frequently asked to check it. But Snapchat is an absolute no.
