Progesterone Shot Tips

Al

I am on day three of the progesterone shots and from reading the posts here I was SO nervous. I have had shots on each side now and I couldn’t feel either one here’s some tips that are working for me so far:

1) My nurse used a sharpie to draw circles on me to show my hubby the “boundaries” / best place for him to “aim”. This will avoid him injecting in the wrong place and hitting your sciatic nerve or bone etc. I’d rather have two black circles on my bum than have painful shots every night!!

2) I turn my sink water on until it runs hot and fill a short glass is a few inches of hot water. I set the vial in the hot water for 5 min prior to the injection.

3) DO NOT use the big needles you draw the medicine up with to inject! Make sure your Dr. gives you some smaller (still long) needles to use for the injection part. Draw up with the big needle, inject with the smaller needle. I am using 23 gague and can’t feel them. The need does have to be long enough to get to the muscle and nick enough to deliver the thicker serum, but doesn’t have to be HUGE!

4) I lay on a heating pad for about 5 minutes before the shot, and then for about 15 minutes after. I also massage the injection spot for about 5 minutes after. Massage and heat help to break up the medicine and make the oil easier to absorb. If you don’t do this, you are bound to get really “lumpy” in your injection areas.

5) Lie down for the shots, or stand on 1 leg, taking all the weight out of the leg in your injection side. I have laid down on my stomach both times and haven’t felt a thing. Lie down and take ow deep breaths. This allows your muscles to be completely record.

6) Be sure your shot giver aims and fires! Don’t let him hesitate he needs to be quick and precise when putting the needle in.

Hope these tips help y’all! Like I said the shot part for me has been a breeze using the above tips, I’m a teeny bit in my buns when laying on my back the next day, but that’s the meds not the shot itself.
