What do I need for breast feeding?

Question

Hi! I'm a first-time mom, and I plan to breast feed and eventually switch to a breast pump when I go back to work. 
I have one more month of pregnancy to go, and right now, I have a breast pump and bottles, and stuff to clean and sanitize those. I also have a nursing pillow and nursing bras. What else do I need? I keep reading about lotions and breast pads, but I have no idea what is good. Anything else? Thanks! 😊

My sister-in-law breastfed and said to rub a little of the milk on the nipple after feeding and she said that helped more than the lotion! I haven't had a baby yet to try it, but she seemed co convincing.

I like lansinoh breast pads and lanolin. You'll want burp cloths (and cloth diapers work well). Also remember that even though BF is natural, it's not always easy- there can sometimes be challenges with latch or milk production, but these can usually be resolved with the right support so I'd suggest looking into resources now, whether it's lactation consultants at the hospital, in your area, la leche league meetings you can go to, etc.

The gel pads thst you can chill in fridge are amazing! Lily padz are awesome after your milk regulates say around  2 months postpartum. The milk savers look like a great product but I can't imagine them to be comfortable to wear while out and about... I would think they are more for while nursing on one side putting it on the other breast. I like the washable breast pads, I am a heavy producer though so I ordered ones made out of hemp and bamboo because they are more absorbent. I also had a sweet friend turn burp cloths into breast pads.

Lansinoah disposable breastpads were my favorite I had an over active prediction/letdown and these worked the best.  I tried a few other brands and was not happy with them and I also tried washable pads but I went through them way to fast! 
Also Medela nipple cream worked well for me at one point I had a cracked nipple and I used breast milk when I was able to let them hang out but when I had to cover up I always put on nipple cream.

If you have a lot of pain or any cracking or anything you might want to try a nipple shield.  My son was able to continue nursing and I was able to heal without having to give up nursing.  It alleviated a lot of the pain!

I'm also a FTM so I'm not speaking from experience but I bought disposable breast pads (for leaking) and nipple cream in case of any soreness, cracked nipples, etc. I bought the Lansinoh pads and Lansinoh lanolin for nipple cream. I also hear that coconut oil and breast milk on the nipples work well to relieve sore cracked nipples. Sorry if tmi but it is what it is :-)

Thank you, everyone! That was super helpful. Went and got Lasinoh pads and Lanolin, so I have something to get started with, but might eventually expand. I forgot we already had storage bags, too. And I might still attend a breast feeding class, too, depending on whether my baby is still in my belly by then (class is offered shortly before my due date). Thanks! 😊

I would try to find a spot in your home where you will feel comfortable doing most  of your nursing and set up a little area for yourself. I was really comfortable nursing while laying on my right side, so we moved our tv so that I could watch during feedings and we put a table nearby so I could keep snacks and bottled water close by

Also cold compresses feel great but help stop milk from producing pump every few hours if they feel full
