First crush in years

So I started University last fall and I met this fantastic funny guy in my class. I’ve known him now for 5 months and started getting a crush on him. A friend whose known him for years told me not to rush anything and to not straight up tell him because he’s shy and hasn’t had any dating experience, but I’m an impatient gal. He and I have talked some, but I can’t ever figure him out. I don’t know if the feeling is mutual or if I’m only a friend to him.
