Pregnant boxer?!?!

Ok guys, we adopted a boxer right before Christmas, she’s been getting bigger and bigger so I took her to the vet today and turns out she’s due to have puppies anytime between now and the next 2 weeks! Omg! 
So I need all the tips and tricks you guys have about labor, birthing puppies, etc! 
They did an X-ray and counted 8 puppies! 
We had puppies when I was younger (like in middle school) but I don’t remember anything about it!

It’ecure and can be covered but you can access. A cardboard box works in a pinch but if you can get a whelping box that would be best. It should have blankets lining it but not bunched up - you don’t want puppies lost in blankets. It should also be warm so either keep the room warm or have a heat or underneath half of it :) and you’ll need lots of spare towels that you don’t mind getting dirty - giving birth can be messy! 
- I’d also grab some hand raising formula for pups just in case and some syringes. Pups can fade quickly if Mum isn’t feeding them enough or if they’re weak from the get go. You don’t want to completely handraise them because then they’ll not go back to Mum but just top them up after a feed if they’re not getting full. I find that human bottles actually work better than bottles made for animals :) you always let them feed from Mum first to keep her milk up as well
Signs to look out for when you need to call the vet or when things are going downhill: 
- fever in mum or placenta being produced without a pup 
- missing placentas. Count them and make sure they all come out because if retained Mum will get sick very quick 
- eating placentas. This won’t be the end of the world but if they eat too many they can throw up black liquid. It’s because of the blood in the placentas but it’s terrifying to watch for the first time. I just used to take them away and give ice cream for energy instead as well as water 
- if Mum is pushing for more than 2 hours or stops pushing then call vet for advice. There might be big gaps between pups but she shouldn’t be pushing long 
- if in doubt call the vet. They’ll walk you through what to do :) 
It’s such an amazing experience but can be quite overwhelming. If you want feel free to contact me with any other questions. I was a vet nurse and used to breed so have seen many litters and did a lot of research to be prepared beforehand :)

Have lots of towels for her to snuggle up in to birth. Don’t help her and don’t touch the puppies til they’re all out and she has had the chance to clean them all herself.

Update guys! 
Fern had about 6 inches of mucous hanging from her vulva this morning and has been very restless. Her rectal temp is 99.2. We rigged up this “welping box” for her AND gated off my 4 year olds room so she can have her privacy but she HATES IT. She wants to be right on top of us 24-7. Is this too many blankets?

Should I encourage her to spend time in her “box” or let her be out in the living room with us (another dog, cat, myself, 4 y.o. And 1 year old.)
According to the vet it should be any day now and she’s been acting strange today.
