Membrane sweeping?

How invasive or natural is this? Would any of you consider getting it done?

I had a membrane sweep 11 days after my due date. It was pretty painful for me. However, I immediately started having cramps which lead to my water breaking and 5 minute spaced contractions. I got to the hospital with contractions about 3 minutes apart (80% effaced and 3cm). 5 hours later my son was born naturally (no other interventions).

It's about as invasive as a pelvic exam. Your cervix has to be open for it. It doesn't always work and it can increase your risk of infection.

I had this done several times with my third, who was almost 2 weeks overdue (which would have risked us out of a homebirth.) It only works if your body is ready - it won't start labor if you aren't. There's a very very small risk of the midwife breaking your water, I believe. Of all the interventions to start labor I consider it one of the most gentle/natural.

(It didn't start labor for me.)

Had it done with my second birth.. its very non evasive and within an hour I went into labor

I had this done with my first at 40w 3 days. Early labor started that night and she came the next day. I am thankful for this method because I didn't want to be induced. It didn't hurt me at all.

Nothing wrong with. I had it done at 39 weeks and 5 days. It helped me lose some of my mucus plug and gave me some cramping but my body still isn't ready to have a baby yet so I'm having to be induced ... 😭💔

Your doctor will just stick their fingers up in there and swirl them around. Not very comfortable at all obviously but nothing too terrible.
