spotting 16dpo

I have been on various forms of contraception for nearly 20 years. Before using contraception my cycle was 14 days long. I stopped Nuvaring in November. My first cycle was 21 days, the second was 23. Now I would be day 28 of my third cycle. I have had light bleeding for two days at the start of each previous period and I had spotting today but it seems to have stopped already. hpt this morning was negative. I wanted to believe I was late. Then I decided that this is now day 1 of my next cycle. And now I don't really know. It would be wishful thinking to think that this is early pregnancy spotting 16 days after ovulation with a negative pregnancy test wouldn't it?
