Baby shower help

So my friend is throwing me a baby shower but all of my family lives half way across the country. Did you ladies invite friends and family that were far away or just local? I moved away a year and a half ago and have friends here and my husbands family is close by as well. I'm unable to travel back home though before the baby is born.
