Zofran- Safe or no?

Question

Ok ladies- this is my third pregnancy and while I am blessed that I rarely vomit while pregnant the nausea I've had this time has been crippling. My husband has to work a lot and I have two toddlers to care for. My midwife prescribed me Zofran but I've heard controversial things about it. What is YOUR experience with this Rx???

(I'm considering the Unisom/B6 combo instead but I'd possibly have to wean my youngest early and he's just not ready yet. Trying to weigh my options here!)

Zofran does not cause birth defects. Some people whose babies had birth defects took Zofran, but that does not mean it's causational. There is no increase in birth defects with the use of Zofran at regular doses.

I have a prescription for it, I have severe migraines and unable to keep down pain medication so they gave me zofran to use when I get a migraine. So I have used it twice in 22 weeks so I can't complain it has helped when I needed to keep medicine and water down.

I used Zofran with my third pregnancy (sounds like a similar situation). I was also still nursing at the time. I used a combination of SeaBands and ginger capsules daily, so I found that I only really needed to take the Zofran every 2-3 days. I got the relief I needed, and baby was born healthy.

This time around, I was wary of using Zofran. My midwife also recommended the B6/ Unisom combo, but I'm terrible with sleep aids (and still nursing once a day). I ended up adding two 25mg tablets of B6 to my diet daily, and I still wear my SeaBands. It took about a week, but the B6 has helped a lot on its own.

So, I think you could go either way. I think moms tend to get caught up in the chance something could go wrong, but really, it's far more likely that everything will be fine. I hope you get some relief!
