Do you have to open presents at a baby shower

Idk why but I absolutely hate having to sit and open presents (it’s not a children’s party) in front of people. I find it super tacky, boastful, and unnecessary. This is my first baby shower and I reallyyy don’t want to set time aside to open gifts in front of everyone. Is that frowned upon? Am I going to have to just suck it up and do it any way? Advice please

Yes. People want to see you react to their gifts. Have your SO come for the opening part.

Just my opinion but everyone loves to see the cute things at the shower. You know to oooh and ahhh. I would be disappointed if I went to a shower and didnt see a reaction to opening my gift or seeing all the other cute stuff. But its your party.

I didn’t want to do it either but everyone else wanted me to so I did. I made my boyfriend open half so that I wasn’t the only one being stared at but it still sucked lol. I HATE being the center of attention so I was super hot and nauseas throughout the entire thing. I was super relieved when it was over.

I HATED opening my gifts and felt so awkward about it, but people love watching you open their gifts. I got so many clothes that I was massively annoyed, but my step mom said I did well and my face never gave me true feelings away!

Whoever is throwing the shower for you could ask guests to do a "display" shower. They bring gifts in original packaging or decorate in open basket so you can all see gifts but use use the time  to spend to with friends  and family. A friend of mine did this and i wasn't offended as a guest. I did open all my gifts at my shower. It takes like 2 hours lol

One of my good friends had everyone bring gifts that weren’t wrapped so she didn’t have to spend so much time opening. It was a neat idea but I missed playing gift bingo 😂

I had 3 showers and I opened at each one and I hated it. I felt pressured to be enthusiastic about each gift. i hate attention like that  I personally wouldn't mind if I went to a party and they didn't open gifts. it can take forever and gets boring after awhile. it's your day, make sure your comfortable people will get over it if they are offended.

I’m only 7 weeks pregnant so I haven’t had my baby shower yet, but for my bridal shower, we asked everyone to bring their presents unwrapped! My bridesmaids assigned each person/gift a number when walking in and made a list. When it was present time, we went through the list and I recognized each gift and person! Everyone was able to see what I got and who it was from but they didn’t have to wait for me to unwrap things ! I loved it!
