I had a positive UTI culture but no symptoms? They prescribed me antibiotics anyway??

The doctor is telling me I have a UTI although I have no symptoms and I read if this happens that they won't give you antibiotics unless you're pregnant or about to have surgery because it's not a big deal however I was prescribed some.... I don't want to take them if I don't have to because apparently they can make my birth control less effective. Like I said I have 0 symptoms and I think possibly the infection could be somewhere else or could not be there at all. Don't most UTIs go away without treatment anyway?

Take the meds and use back up protection. A simple UTI can quickly turn into a serious kidney infection. My friend decided to just drink cranberry juice instead of taking antibiotics, she ended up spending a few days in the hospital getting IV antibiotics.

Take the antibiotics they gave you. UTIs can turn into kidney infections very quickly, which lands you in the hospital. Take the mess. Just because you have no simptoms doesn't mean you don't have it. The test was positive. Take the medications and use another method of birth control or don't have sex u till the antibiotics are finished

Take the meds. I used to get UTIs, rarely, when I was younger and had no idea what they were. I'm guessing because I never had meds for them, is why I get them all the time now. Not enough water will trigger one, too much sugar will trigger one, not going pee before and after sex will trigger them. Anything and they suck!

I would take the meds even if you don't feel sick. A uti can move to your kidneys and that SUCKS!!

If you don't want to take the meds...try lots of water n cranberry juice...but be careful....doctors give you meds for a reason

It's called a silent UTI. I know a friend who had it and had to take antibiotics
