I believe in infant Baptism and then Confirmation. For me Baptism is welcoming a child into the church and religious community and acknowledging them as a child of God. The parents and God parents promise to raise them and teach them the ways of the church and about God. Its more of a promise made by the adults. When the child is older then they choose to be confirmed in their faith and basically make the promises that the God parents and parents made at their Baptism. So it’s not like infant Baptism takes away a child’s free will or right to chose what they believe in because they do that for themselves later in life.

I do not believe an act can save a person. I believe it is grace alone with God-given faith alone due to numerous passages pointing that out. One thing that’s always struck me is God gave us an example of a barebones salvation (by the skin of his teeth salvation for any KJV-ers) in the robber on the cross. He didn’t get baptized or do anything except die on the cross. We also don’t know if he believed homosexuality was a sin, creation was done in seven days, etc. All we know is he proclaimed Jesus as king and believed His message, and simply submitted to Jesus. His asking Jesus to remember him comes after the robber’s public declaration of faith. And Jesus saved him. That to me is infinitely beautiful and humbling. That’s the basics in play.

I believe in a baby dedication and a believers baptism because I think the person needs to make the decision themselves.
