My boyfriend gave me an ultimatum: go to the college of my dreams (out-of-date) and loose him or stay in my hometown to be with him.

Never, EVER, give up your future for someone else. College is important, where as a boyfriend can change and move on. Humans need constants and stability and college will provide that better than a boyfriend who could flake. AND ON TOP OF THAT, this behavior he is exhibiting is abusive. The whole "pick me or it" thing. It NEVER goes well, and it can turn very ugly very fast. I recommend you get out of there as soon as possible and go to College!

There is so much to the story but here are the main points: 
1) I told him even before we started our relationship I was leaving. I have been dreaming of leaving my home state since I was 5 and I wasn't going to let a guy change that for me. 
2) He has pushed and pressured me into doing things I told him I didn't want to do in the first place so this isn't the first and won't be the last with him.
All of that shows me he doesn't respect me enough to respect my decisions. 
But I still love him so much that it is making me sick to my stomach at the thought of having to break up with him. We have been together for almost a year (March 26th would have been a year) and we have planned out so much of our future together but I can't be with a man that will make me choose between him and my future.

Please go to the college of your dreams!!!!! Anybody who truly loves you will not give you an ultimatum like that. They either support you or don’t and if they don’t then you don’t need them. Put your focus into college. You’ll meet new people, make friends and experience a different aspect in life. Ultimately it is your decision but don’t allow anyone to guilt you into staying back and being with them. Especially for your dream school.
